“…Baalbergen et al [29] found a significantly worse 5-year disease-specific survival if p53 staining was strongly positive in cervical adenocarcinoma cases. Overexpression of p53 and Bcl-2 provides independent prognostic information for the poor disease-free survival in cervical cancer cases [47] . Precursor lesions of the cervix persist longer and progress more quickly in women with oncogenic HPV infection than in women with non-oncogenic infections or without HPV [48] .…”

“…In order to establish a new predictor of the outcome of radiotherapy for human cervical carcinoma, Harima et al, (1998) established that the increased Bcl2 expression after radiotherapy is correlated with poor survival, while increased Bax expression after radiotherapy is correlated with good survival; these findings suggest that the levels of Bax and Bcl2 expression after radiotherapy are useful prognostic markers in patients with human cervical carcinoma (Harima et al, 1998). Some studies confirm that evaluation of Bax and Bcl2 expressions provide independent prognostic information for the clinical course of the disease and therefore could be developed as prognostic indicators for cervical cancer: Bax expression was associated with good survival while Bcl2expression was associated with poor survival, and combination of Bcl2+/Bax+ was significantly associated with poorer disease free survival (Wootipoom et al, 2004).…”

“…Cervical cancers with Bcl-2 expression have been reported to exhibit radiation resistance and poor prognoses (39)(40)(41). However, contradictory results have also been found in terms of Bcl-2 expression and patient prognosis (42)(43)(44)(45)(46)(47)(48)(49).…”
