Prognostic significance of atherogenic index of plasma, atherogenic coefficient and lipoprotein combined index among elderly patients with non-ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction in 1-year follow-up

Abstract: OBJECTIVES: Coronary artery disease (CAD) remains a leading cause of death in elderly patients. Recently, novel lipoproteins-Atherogenic Index of Plasma (AIP), Atherogenic Coeffi cient (AC) and Lipoprotein Combine Index (LCI) have been suggested as CAD risk factors; their clinical usefulness, however, remains unknown. The aim of the study was to assess the predictive value of AIP, AC and LCI concerning incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and all-cause mortality in 1-year follow-up. “…While some studies support the predictive value of AIP for adverse cardiovascular ontcomes in patients with CAD (33,34), con icting conclusions have also been reported. One study by Drwila et al found that AIP was not a signi cant predictor of MACCEs and all-cause mortality at one year (35). The inconsistencies of these studies may be attributed to the difference of age, ethnicity, gender and CAD severity among enrolled population.…”

“…Among the factors, many of them increase the risk of the atherosclerotic disease per se. Out of lipid spectrum disorders, LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol has been specifi cally identifi ed as a factor contributing to the atherosclerosis development, while statin treatment aimed U n c o r r e c t e d at reducing the level of LDL-cholesterol contributes to the reduction in the risk of cardiovascular events (3)(4)(5)(6)(7).…”
