Prognostic significance and potential therapeutic target of VEGFR2 in hepatocellular carcinoma

Abstract: The efficacy of A8H1 in immunohistochemistry using HCC tissues was confirmed. There was a correlation of high VEGFR2 expression with prognostic significance in HCC. Additionally, the self-made anti-VEGFR2 monoclonal antibody could be used for future anti-HCC-targeted therapy research.

“…Moreover, the high expression of VEGFR-2 in HCC was related to large tumor diameter (p=0.012), poor differentiation (p=0.007), high serum -fetoprotein (p=0.029), multifocal gross classification (p=0.007), and less than 5 years' survival (p=0.029). In addition, Kaplan-Meier survival and regression analyses showed that high VEGFR-2 expression (p=0.009) and stage grouping were independent prognostic factors (Huang et al 2011). Anti-VEGFR-2 therapy is a promising novel potential therapy for HCC (Lang et al 2008).…”

“…HCC accounts for 90% of all malignant liver tumors. This typically highly vascular tumor is the fifth most common type of cancer and ranks as the third leading cause of cancer www.intechopen.com related deaths worldwide (Huang et al 2011). It has been well established that VEGF plays a critical role in angiogenesis.…”

“…Increased VEGFR-2 expression correlates with the stage of disease and the invasiveness of the phenotype. Hepatocellular carcinomas also show a correlation between high VEGFR-2 expression and prognostic significance [7]. High VEGFR-2 expression is significantly related to a large tumor diameter, poorly differentiated tumors, and short survival.…”
