This study presents a particle filter based framework to track cardiac surface from a time sequence of single magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) slices with the future goal of utilizing the presented framework for interventional cardiovascular magnetic resonance procedures, which rely on the accurate and online tracking of the cardiac surface from MRI data. The framework exploits a low-order parametric deformable model of the cardiac surface. A stochastic dynamic system represents the cardiac surface motion. Deformable models are employed to introduce shape prior to control the degree of the deformations. Adaptive filters are used to model complex cardiac motion in the dynamic model of the system. Particle filters are utilized to recursively estimate the current state of the system over time. The proposed method is applied to recover biventricular deformations and validated with a numerical phantom and multiple real cardiac MRI datasets. The algorithm is evaluated with multiple experiments using fixed and varying image slice planes at each time step. For the real cardiac MRI datasets, the average root-mean-square tracking errors of 2.61 mm and 3.42 mm are reported respectively for the fixed and varying image slice planes. This work serves as a proof-of-concept study for modeling and tracking the cardiac surface deformations via a low-order probabilistic model with the future goal of utilizing this method for the targeted interventional cardiac procedures under MR image guidance. For the real cardiac MRI datasets, the presented method was able to track the points-of-interests located on different sections of the cardiac surface within a precision of 3 pixels. The analyses show that the use of deformable cardiac surface tracking algorithm can pave the way for performing precise targeted intracardiac ablation procedures under MRI guidance. The main contributions of this work are twofold. First, it presents a framework for the tracking of whole cardiac surface from a time sequence of single image slices. Second, it employs adaptive filters to incorporate motion information in the tracking of nonrigid cardiac surface motion for temporal coherence.

Altmış beş yaşındaki erkek hasta akut inferiyor miyokard infarktüsü ve sinüs bradikardisi ile hastaneye yatırıldı. Hastaya koroner arter hastalığına eşlik eden ciddi triküspit yetmezliği tanısı konuldu. Koroner arter bypass greftleme ile eş zamanlı De Vega triküspid anüloplasti ameliyatı yapıldı. Ameliyat sırasında sağ atriyal apendikste bulunan divertikül biçiminde bir kitle eksize edildi. Patolojik inceleme kitlenin trombüs olduğunu açığa çıkardı. Sağ atriyal trombüs sol atriyal trombüse göre daha ender görülür. Ayrıca, sinüs ritmindeki bir hastada nadiren gelişir. Sağ atriyal trombüs, ender olarak görül-mesine karşın ciddi tromboembolik komplikasyonlara yol açabilir. İnferiyor miyokard infarktüsü sonrası koroner arter bypass cerrahisi uygulanacak hastalarda sağ atriyal trombüs olasılığı akılda tutulmalıdır. Sağ atriyal trombüs ameliyat sırasında saptandığında ise olası pulmoner emboliyi engellemek için çıkartılması gerektiğini düşün-mekteyiz.Anah tar söz cük ler: Koroner arter bypass cerrahisi; sağ atriyal trombüs; transtorasik ekokardiyografi.A 65-years-old male patient was hospitalised with acute inferior myocardial infarction and sinus bradycardia. The patient was diagnosed with coronary artery disease accompanied by severe tricuspid insufficiency. Coronary artery bypass grafting concomitant with De Vega's tricuspid annuloplasty operation was performed. During the operation, a diverticulum shaped mass in the right atrial appendage was excised. Pathological examination revealed that the mass was a thrombus. Right atrial thrombus is less frequently seen than left atrial thrombus. In addition, it rarely develops in a patient in sinus rhythm. Although right atrial thrombus is rarely seen, it may cause severe thromboembolic complications. The possibility of right atrial thrombus should be kept in mind in the patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery after inferior myocardial infarction. We think that when right atrial thrombus is detected during the operation, it should be removed to avoid possible pulmonary embolism.Key words: Coronary artery bypass surgery; right atrial thrombus; transthoracic echocardiography. Objective: To elucidate the mechanism of atrial fibrillation and evaluate left atrium function after restoration of sinus rhythm in patients with acute posterior wall myocardial infarction ( MI). Materials and Methods: The study included 53 patients with posterior wall MI.All patients were divided into 2 groups. The first group consisted of 33 a people with paroxysms of atrial fibrillation (AF), and the second included 20 control subjects without arrhythmia. All percutaneous intervention was performed within the first 24 hours. Patients were evaluated for time and duration of paroxysms, the size of the heart chambers and the recovery time of the left atrium (LA)function. Results: Patients with posterior wall myocardial infarction developed AF in the early stages of the disease (in 91% on the first day), with short duration of paroxysms, stopped spontaneously and often within 1 hour (in 11 people). There were no significant differences in the size of the heart chambers, left ventricular contractility and hemodynamic disturbances in patients of both groups. AF in most cases developed in patients without left ventricular failure (in 27 people; 82%). Wherein the proximal right coronary artery occlusion was observed more frequently in patients with atrial fibrillation, than in the control group (17 vs 2; p <0,001). Approximately half patients(16 ) with AF before the appearance of atrial fibrillation bradysystolya of atria (less than 50 in 1 min) was recorded, due to acute sinus node dysfunction. After the reversion of sinus rhythm mechanical function of the LA was absent in only 4 people with left ventricular failure. Effective systole of LA was restored only 7 days after reversion to sinus rhythm. The rare occurrence of mechanical dysfunction after discontinuation of arrhythmia indicates a low probability of thrombosis and embolism in the systemic circulation. Conclusion: In cases of patients with posterior wall localization of MI main causes of AF include acute ischemia of atria due to occlusion of the right coronary artery above the branches supplying atrium. Atrial bradysystolya due to acute sinus node dysfunction often contributes to the development of AF as a substitute atrial rate (acute syndrome of tachy-bradycardia). In case of patients with posterior wall MI AF episodes were rarely accompanied by hemodynamic disturbances and the risk of systemic thromboembolism after reversion to sinus rhythm was low.
