Prognostic implications of antibodies to Ro/SSA and soluble liver antigen in type 1 autoimmune hepatitis

Abstract: Antibodies to Ro52 alone and antibodies to Ro52 in conjunction with antibodies to soluble liver antigen are independently associated with a poor prognosis in type 1 autoimmune hepatitis. The prognostic implications ascribed to antibodies to soluble liver antigen may reflect their almost invariable concurrence with antibodies to Ro52.

“…25 No 2: 227-234 thyroid and are T cell-mediated organ-specific autoimmune disorders. The prevalence of AITDs is estimated to be 2-5% [13,26,27], while the prevalence of antithyroid antibodies such as TPOAb, TGAb and ATMA may be even higher [28]. The AITDs comprise two main clinical presentations: Graves' disease (GD) and HT, with clinical hallmarks of thyrotoxicosis and hypothyroidism, respectively.…”

“…The presence of anti-chromatin antibodies was correlated to more frequent relapses [43] , and anti-Ro52 to adverse outcomes and poor prognosis [44] . A large multicenter Japanese study reported that patients with AIH positive for anti-programmed cell death-1 antibody also show a delayed response to immunosuppressive therapy [45] .…”
