This paper deals with the stochastic modeling of system comp rising t wo subsystems A and B in series.Subsystem A consists three active parallel units. Failure time and repair time are assumed exponential. We developed explicit exp ressions for mean time to system failure (MTSF), system availability, busy period and profit function using Kolmogorov's forward equations method and perform graphical analysis to see the behavior of failure rates and repair rates on measures of system effect iveness such MTSF, system availability and profit function.

Abstract. The device named autoclave used in pharma industries has been studied in this paper. This study provides the discussion how to obtain the reliability testing strategy of two dis-similar parallel units. The system is considered to be in operative condition if at least one out of two is in operative state. A single repair facility is available for repairing both kinds of failed units. In addition to repair mechanism, inspection policy has also been introduced for failed automatic unit. But the manual one does not require any such supervision facilty. Various essential measures of system effectiveness such as mean time to system failure (MTSF), steady state availability, busy period of supervisor and repairman are examined probabilistically by using geometric distribution and regenerative point techniques. A graph has been plotted to represent the behaviour of profit function and MTSF with respect to different failure and repair rate. IntroductionWith significant advances in the design and development of highly complex equipments, and the use of such equipments under high stress conditions and relatively unknown exotic environments, the problems of performance failures began to demand increasing attention. Under reliability analysis many researchers had given their contribution for analyzing different models using exponential distribution. M. Y. Haggag [4] had analyzed the two dissimilar cold standby system using continuous distribution. The concept of critical human error with periodic inspection had been introduced by S. M. Rizwan and A. Problem statement:The study deals with a standby system consisting of two units. Initially one unit is operative and the other is standby. When both the units are failed then there is a provision of switching over to the other similar system. This practical situation may be observed in an oil refinery plant. Real data on failure and repair rates of such units collected from oil refinery plant, Pani pat, India have been used for present study. Approach: The system is analyzed by making use of semi-Markov processes and regenerative point technique. Results: Expression for the expected profit is obtained after obtaining various measures of system effectiveness. Graphical analysis is also done for a particular case and various interpretations are made. Conclusion: Upper/lower limits for various rates/costs/probabilities can be obtained to get the positive profit for the system and to decide about the least value of the price of the product to be produced.
