This practitioner research in education paper is based on the experiences of two English language educators taking part in a collaborative online international learning project, otherwise known as COIL. Synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods were used for English language learners to meet and work with students from other countries. The collaboration took place virtually between two institutions of higher education, located on different sides of the globe, namely Mexico and Singapore. Students met to work in groups on a project, in an authentic situation to practice the target language. The experience provided students with intercultural and transnational learning through interaction, collaboration and taking ownership of their learning. With little or no experience of taking part in COIL projects, the practitioners investigated three key questions: 1. What are the benefits to students of taking part in international collaboration? 2. What are the challenges of such a project? 3. How do students cope with misunderstandings resulting from cultural and ethnic differences? Data was collected through the analysis of written online learning logs using thematic coding to create a survey given to participating students at the end of the project. The benefits, as well as the challenges, are considered followed by recommendations based on first-hand experiences and reflections to offer a practical reference for colleagues and educators who may wish to explore the feasibility of taking part in such a project.

The aim of this article is to review the concept of e-research and provide insight into the multidimensionality of technology-based research in educational science. First, existing theories that reflect different aspects of digital transformation in academic work were reviewed. Secondly, additional elements were proposed for writing the research methodology when conducting technology-based research in the educational sciences. Finally, a criteria tool was created to illustrate the idea of how some additional technological aspects could be included in technology-based research and/or e-research methodology. To illustrate the reviewed concepts in the context of educational sciences, each section is supplemented with examples of empirical studies, particularly paying attention to research methodology (i.e., research instruments, research procedure, data collection, etc.). In addition, the article touches upon aspects of researchers' digital literacy.

Objective: This study investigates the agential causes influencing undergraduate business management students in their handling of change. The objectives are: (1) To investigate emotional reactions experienced by students since the launch of full virtual teaching as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak. (2) To investigate the students’ concerns in their lived experiences. (3) To identify commonalities and differences in students’ experiences during the implementation of full virtual teaching induced by COVID-19 in the socio-cultural contexts of China, the UK, and Ukraine. Methods: This research employed an embedded multiple-case design, following the logic of literal and theoretical replication. One-to-one interviews were conducted, involving a total of 61 business management students. All scripts were analyzed using framework analysis and summative content analysis. Results: The study found that all sampled students have experienced a wide range of emotions as emerged from their reflexive accounts of their lived experiences associated with full virtual teaching as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. A discernible trajectory of emotional changes was observed. The students’ primary concerns evolved as situations progressed, with the desire to return to campus being pronounced at the beginning of the change and intensifying over time. Additionally, the study identified differences in emotional reactions and considerations of personal development between Chinese students and their counterparts from other socio-cultural backgrounds. Conclusion: Emotions, reflexivity, absence, and absenting are influential factors shaping student experiences.
