Profile of Functional Limitations and Task Performance Among People With Early- and Middle-Stage Parkinson Disease

Abstract: The findings demonstrate that functional loss occurs at different points in the disease process, depending on the task under consideration. The resulting profile of functional limitations provides benchmarks that clinicians and researchers can use to interpret and monitor status of patients.

“…As the disease progresses, postural instability and mobility difficulties can have a compromising effect on physical functioning [2,3], quality of life [4,5], and social engagement [6]. Physical activity is advocated in the management of PD [7] but it is estimated more than 50% do not meet the recommended activity levels [8] of 30 min per day [9].…”

“…Having the aim to assess the impact of the disease on the everyday life of patients to the fullest extent, their interviewing included the use of the tests "Functional Limitation Profile" and "Sickness Impact Profile-68" [7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15] . While carrying out "Functional Limitation Profile" test, the change of patient's behavior in cases of Parkinson's disease was assessed in 12 categories of life activity: "walk", "body care and motion", "movement", "household activity", "leisure and entertainment", "social interaction", "emotions", "clarity of mind", "sleep and rest", "food", "communication", "work".…”
