Show more

“…Its application in agriculture has not been limited to it biocidal properties with mixed reviews reported when administered in dilution as a pesticide on cowpea weevil larvae, flies, Spodoptera frugiperda caterpillars, and wasps (Chalermsan & Peerapan 2009;Tavares et al 2010;Pangnakorn et al 2012;Achmadi et al 2013) or wasps (Mendonca et al 2006). In sharp contrast, other scientists have focused on its potential benefits in enhancing crop yields, with mixed reviews reported upon its application to French marigold, scarlet sage, zinnia, rock melon, palm phoenix when applied in diluted form (Zulkarami et al 2011;Mungkunkamchao et al 2013), and in combination with biochar/charcoal (Hua et al 1998;Kang, et al 2012;Lashari et al 2013).…”

“…Farmers' general lack of knowledge of the coffee entomofauna has led to extensive and indiscriminate application of chemical products. As a result, a series of disastrous environmental disturbances have aggravated many entomological problems due to the reduction of natural control agents (Parra 1985;Souza et al 1998, Mendonça et al 2006. The demand for organic products and public pressure for less aggressive crop-management practices are obligating farmers to employ new products and methods, despite the lack of information on their efficiency (Leroy et al 2000;Venzon et al 2005).…”
