Productivity and Drainage Area of Fractured Horizontal Wells in Tight Gas Reservoirs

Abstract: TX 75083-3836, U.S.A., fax 01-972-952-9435. AbstractThis paper discusses the performance and productivity of fractured horizontal wells in heterogeneous, tight-gas formations. Production characteristics and flow regimes of unfractured and fractured horizontal wells are documented. The results show that if hydraulic fracturing affects stress distribution to create or rejuvenate natural fractures around the well, productivity of the system is significantly increased. Unless there is significant contrast between … Show more

“…They established a multi-fractured horizontal well model by treating the simulated area around hydraulic fracture stages as a dual-porosity medium. The correctness of the model was verified by comparing it with the semi-analytical solutions obtained by Medeiros et al (2007). Thereafter, the trilinear flow model has been widely used to investigative the dynamic characteristics of MFHWs in unconventional reservoirs (Ozcan et al 2014;Gao 2014;Wei et al 2015;Wang et al 2015;Chen et al 2016;Wang et al 2016aWang et al , 2016b.…”

“…Based on this model, Su et al (2015) characterized the SRV using a circular region in shale gas reservoir and analyzed the pressure performance considering the SRV. In addition to the analytical models, there are some numerical models to simulate the seepage flow of MFHW in unconventional reservoirs (Mediros et al 2007;Mayerhofer et al 2006;Meyer and Bazan 2011). All these models have some drawbacks, such as the complex computational process, relationships of parameters, and difficult application, so the simplifications of the flow models have to be considered.…”
