Production of new thermoluminescent mini-dosimeters

Abstract: A method of producing CaSO4:Dy thermoluminescent mini-dosimeters was reported in 1986 by B W Wessels for determination of the in vivo absorbed dose in radioimmunotherapy, a field in which absorbed dose gradients are important. These dosimeters, which undergo dissolution when used in a liquid environment, showed a sensitivity loss of up to 30% after 4 days of immersion in our tests. Moreover, several studies have shown that biocompatibility problems can occur during in vivo studies in animals. This paper descri… Show more

“…However, CaSO 4 :Dy crystals are highly hydrophilic and water diffusion, temperature and pH changes alter photoemission responses. 30% of signal is lost after only 4 days of incubation in agarose gel due to crystalline dissolution (Demidecki et al 1993, Strand and Strandh 1994, Martin et al 2000. From the biological point of view, CaSO 4 :Dy mini thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) dissolution limited probably biocompatibility (Chiou et al 1991).…”

“…In this context, new thermoluminescent dosimeters were developed for internal dosimetry and radioprotection (Martin et al 1999(Martin et al , 2000. Their production process is the extrusion of LiF:Mg,Cu,P and a polypropylene mixture, leading to long threads of 400 µm diameter.…”

“…Gy -1 .
