Production of H2S with a Novel Short-Process for the Removal of Heavy Metals in Acidic Effluents from Smelting Flue-Gas Scrubbing Systems

Abstract: Direct sulfidation using a high concentration of H2S (HC-H2S) has shown potential for heavy metals removal in various acidic effluents. However, the lack of a smooth method for producing HC-H2S is a critical challenge. Herein, a novel short-process hydrolysis method was developed for the on-site production of HC-H2S. Near-perfect 100% efficiency and selectivity were obtained via CS2 hydrolysis over the ZrO2-based catalyst. Meanwhile, no apparent residual sulfur/sulfate poisoning was detected, which guaranteed … Show more

“…Generally, industrial wastewater contains a variety of heavy metal ions at different concentrations. [48][49][50][51] Therefore, the development of multi-component adsorption materials is the key for effective water treatment technology. [52] In addition to the adsorption of Hg(II), CMH-CDs-SH was used to adsorb Cu(II) and Cd(II) ions.…”

“…12,13 On the one hand, the high degree of supersaturation of metal sulfides causes a burst of nucleation that limits crystal growth. 14,15 On the other hand, residual sulfide reagents (H 2 S, HS − , S 2− ) tend to be adsorbed on the surface of metal sulfide particles and affect the aggregation and growth of the particles. 16,17 It is widely known that metal sulfide particles consist of primary and secondary particles.…”

“…4 From an industrial point of view, the main purpose of desulfurization is to avoid corrosion of chemical pipelines and chemical reactors, while ensuring that downstream catalysts are not poisoned by sulfur (CO hydrogenation catalysts). 5,6 Up to now, the traditional absorption method has high operating costs and poor regeneration capacity, 7 which can only be performed at low temperatures. Catalytic hydrolysis technology is affected by oxygen concentration and sulfur deposition.…”

“…Carbon disulfidecan be directly converted into sulfate aerosols and CO 2 through complex physicochemical and photochemical reactions, which contribute to the generation of PM 2.5 . In addition, as a toxic and unnoticeable pollutant, even low concentrations of gaseous organosulfur compounds pose a serious and irreversible threat to natural organisms and human organs . From an industrial point of view, the main purpose of desulfurization is to avoid corrosion of chemical pipelines and chemical reactors, while ensuring that downstream catalysts are not poisoned by sulfur (CO hydrogenation catalysts). , …”
