Techniques applied to promote citrus propagation are of extreme relevance, since they assure high yield rates, as well as high genetic and phytosanitary quality. The aim of the present research is to assess the vegetative growth and survival of citrus cultivars subjected to different rootstocks through minigrafting in order to generate identical to the parents. Minigrafting of apical segments (1 and 2 cm long) of ‘Clementine’ tangerine budded onto rootstocks of citrandarins ‘Indio’ and ‘Riverside’ and of the combination between varieties ‘Pera’ sweet orange, ‘Sunki Madarin’ tangerine and ‘Santa Cruz Rangpur’ lemon budded onto rootstocks of citrandarins ‘Indio’, HTR-069 and LRF × (LCR × TR)-005 were evaluated. Assessments were conducted in greenhouse 120 days after the experiment were installed. The use of 2cm long segments facilitates minigrafting adherence to smaller caudal apices. The rootstock of HTR-069 presented the best survival responses among the assessed crowns. Rootstock of citrandarin ‘Indio’ enabled the best crown length development and graft diameter. Based on the results, minigrafting can be a new option for citrus propagation.

Guava is one of the most important tropical fruit crops; however, its cultivation has been affected by the prevalence of the nematode Meloidogyne enterolobii, which leads to a large-scale reduction in the production of fruits and restricts new plantations in the contaminated areas. The discovery of the resistance of Psidium cattleianum to this nematode has increased the possibility of its selective use as rootstock for guava; a few studies have worked on the graft; however, the rootstock exhibits a high incompatibility with the commercial varieties of guava. Therefore, the present study aimed to develop an in vitro-grafting technique of guava scions under rootstocks of P. cattleianum obtained using an in vitro seed germination method. The successful in vitro-grafting was performed using semisolid MS1/2 (Murashige and Skoog) culture medium with 0.5 mg L −1 of Benzyladenine. P. cattleianum with approximately 3 cm length was used as rootstocks, and apical guava stems with 0.5 cm length were used as scions. The grafting procedure used was wedge grafting. To increase the success rate of in vitro-grafting, we used a sterile paper moistened with sterilized distilled water to prevent dehydration. The use of MS1/2 and the wedge grafting resulted in the overall success rate of 30% for the graft between P. cattleianum and Psidium guajava. In conclusion, this is the first report of successful in vitro-grafting between guava and P. cattleianum.

The viability of the mini-cutting technique requires seedling regrowth ability and continuous propagule production. It is hypothesized that the application of gibberellic acid (GA) can stimulate vegetation and increase the production of mini-cuttings. The aim of this study was to increase the mini-cutting yield of Psidium guajava (L.) × Psidium guineense (Sw.) (‘BRS Guaraçá’) as a function of foliar application of GA and season of the year. The experiment was laid out in a randomized-block design with split-plots in time, in which the plots consisted of different GA concentrations applied (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1) and the subplots were represented by two application periods or seasons (summer and winter). Four replicates were used, with two plants per plot. After the seedlings were topped, GA was applied at different concentrations and the emerged shoots were evaluated over 30 days. Mini-stump yield was assessed by collecting and evaluating the potential number of mini-cuttings. Shoot length and mini-stump yield increased linearly with the increasing GA concentrations during the summer. In the winter, this response was quadratic, with optimal concentrations estimated at 65.3 mg L-1 for shoot length and 76 mg L-1 for mini-stump yield. The GA concentration of 200 mg L-1 provided shorter internodes in the summer, whereas in the winter the use of GA did not interfere with this trait. The increasing applications of GA induced a linear increase in stem diameter at both seasons of the year. Gibberellic acid did not interfere with the rooting of the mini-cuttings. The highest rooting percentage occurred in the summer, with an average of 95%. In the winter, this value was 77.2%, demonstrating that mini-cuttings are a promising technique for ‘BRS Guaraçá’. Foliar spraying of GA promoted an increase in mini-cutting production, without interfering with their rooting.
