Production of fungal protein by solid substrate fermentation of cactus Cereus peruvianus and Opuntia ficus indica

Abstract: Recebido em 4/1/00; aceito em 11/10/00Agricultural wastes from cactus Cereus peruvianus and Opuntia ficus indica were investigated for protein production by solid substrate fermentation. Firstly, the polyelectrolytes were extracted and used in water cleaning as auxiliary of flocculation and coagulation. The remaining fibrous material and peels were used as substrate for fermentation with Aspergillus niger. Glucoamylase and cellulase were the main enzymes produced. Amino acids were determined by HPLC and protei… Show more

“…This association tends to occupy larger surface area causing its very high viscosity. [34,35] stated that natural polyelectrolyte has been used as auxiliary of flocculation and coagulation in wastewater treatment and water cleaning process. Iron and copper settlement The different letters indicate significant difference at P > 0.05.…”

“…The groups of animals that were supplemented with cactus-forage silages had access to moderate N levels leading to an improved voluntary feed intake (VFI). The N content in any diet influences the rate of degradation and digestion (Oliveira et al, 2001;Yousuf et al, 2007). Animals supplemented with CAAS and CCCS gained weight but slightly lower than animals fed with CLLS.…”

“…Sin embargo, este material presenta bajo contenido en fibra y proteína cruda (PC). A pesar de esto, se considera como una fuente de alimento que no se encuentra balanceada por lo que debe de enriquecerse, sobre todo para la preparación de concentrados (Oliveira, 2001;Araujo et al, 2005). La PC oscila entre los 25-60 g kg de materia seca.…”

“…However, this material has low fiber and crude protein (CP) content. Despite this, it is considered as a food source that is not balanced so it should be enriched, especially for the preparation of concentrates (Oliveira, 2001;Araujo et al, 2005). CP ranges from 25 to 60 g kg of dry matter; although it is possible to find higher content in material with thorns.…”
