Production of biodegradable sodium caseinate film containing titanium oxide nanoparticles and grape seed essence and investigation of physicochemical properties

Abstract: In this study sodium caseinate lm was produced and the effect of titanium oxide nanoparticles and grape seed essence as factors that enhances lm properties was investigated. For this purpose, nanocomposite lms based on sodium caseinate were modi ed with different levels of nanoparticles of 0 to 1.5 % and grape seed essence at levels of 0 to 500 ppm based on the central composite experimental design (CCD). The effects of these variables on physical/mechanical properties, water vapor permeability and antioxidant… Show more

“…The results presented for the samples with in situ incorporation show that there was a decay of antioxidant activity as the amount of the extract was reduced in the composition of each medium. These results confirm that the incorporation of these extracts in BC membranes is responsible for the addition of antioxidant properties in these materials, as already reported in the work developed by Yorghanlu et al [27] in which the presence of antioxidant activity was observed from the addition of grape seed essence in films produced by nanocomposites.…”

“…Therefore, this was the main reason to study the potential of grape skin residue in an innovative source of natural antioxidants in this research. [25][26][27] Although BC has already been additivated with different active compounds, both by in situ and ex situ methods, its functionalization with biomaterials of plant origin for cosmetic applications is still little explored. Thus, the objective of this work was to develop a new system based on a polymeric matrix of BC with natural grape skin residue extract (Vitis labrusca), which has antioxidant and moisturizing characteristics, for potential application in the cosmetics industry.…”

“…For example, antimicrobial properties of composite membranes were improved by modification or combination with antimicrobial agents. According to the research of Pirsa et al, the addition of inhibitors such as TiO 2 , polyaniline, SiO 2 , KMnO 4 and MgO to biodegradable materials improved their antimicrobial [21][22][23][24] and physicochemical [25][26][27][28] properties. Phenyllactic acid (PA) is a natural antibacterial compound that is stable to acid and heat, soluble in water, and its physicochemical properties are stable over a wide pH range [29].…”

“…This method has been implemented in recent studies for optimizing variables that affect the nanofiber fabrication process. [23][24][25][26][27][28][29] The RSM was employed by Gholipour et al for modeling and optimizing the electrospinning parameters to spin blend chitosan/polyvinylalcohol for controlling fiber diameter at various spinning parameters. There was a correlation between fiber diameter and fabrication variables by using a second-order polynomial function.…”
