Production of bamboo-type carbon nanotubes doped with nitrogen from polyamide pyrolysis gas

Abstract:  The viability of the bamboo-type carbon nanotubes production from pyrolysis gas by a simple process of catalytic chemical vapor deposition is demonstrated.  The pyrolyzed polymer polyamide 6.6 provided the necessary carbon, nitrogen and hydrogen.  Good quality nanotubes were obtained with 5 to 20 layers and 20 nm in diameter.  The best results were obtained from pyrolysis at 900 ºC and growth at 750 ºC.

“…6(b), suggesting the chemical environments for nitrogen atoms were changed aer graing. 45 The component for the O]C-N group at 401.4 eV illustrated the presence of amide groups, which generated by amidation reaction between the MWCNTs and APTEs-PWGF. Thus, the results of XPS conrmed that the MWCNTs were graed on PWGF chemically.…”

“…The large contents of CO (14.6 vol.%) and CO2 (44.8 vol.%) could be attributed to the presence of PET in the RO membrane module, which serves as the major source of CO and CO2 140,141 . Besides, thermal degradation of PA at 600 C could lead to the generation of CO, CO2, H2, and low share of light hydrocarbons due to the formation of condensed liquids 142 . H2 (6.1 vol.%) and hydrocarbon compounds (34.5 vol.%) could also derive from the decomposition of PP, PET, and PSU components in the feedstock 143 .…”
