Production of a Putative Iron(V)−Oxocorrole Species by Photo-Disproportionation of a Bis-Corrole−Diiron(IV)−μ-Oxo Dimer: Implication for a Green Oxidation Catalyst

Abstract: Photo-disproportionation of a bis-corrole diiron(IV) μ-oxo dimer gave a corrole iron(III) species and a corrole iron(V)-oxo species that can be detected and studied in real time. Air oxidation of the corrole iron(III) species regenerated the bis-corrole diiron(IV) μ-oxo dimer, allowing the development of a photo-catalytic method for organic oxidations using molecular oxygen and visible light.

“…The study of influence of the structure and composition of the synthetic systems on their catalytic properties and possible transformations during a chemical reaction remains relevant within the framework of biomimetic approach. According to the literature reports, tetrapyrrole complexes of transition metals can be successfully used as active components of such systems [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. These compounds play an important role in biological processes.…”

“…Both binuclear and mononuclear iron complexes activate some oxidant (H 2 O 2 , organic peroxides, hypervalent iodine compounds, etc.) to form high valent oxo species with remarkable catalytic properties [2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]. However, despite of catalytic activity of oxo-bridged structures, their study is hampered due to their readily transformations during chemical reactions.…”
