Production Methods of CNT-reinforced Al Matrix composites: A Review

Abstract: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-reinforced Al composites have attracted attention due to their high specific strength and low density, which makes them suitable for the use in aerospace and automobile industries. In this review, preparation methods of Al/CNTs composites for achieving a homogeneous desperation of the CNT in the Al matrix are summarized. In addition, the effect of processing methods on carbon nanotube distribution and enhancement of mechanical properties such as toughness, wear behavior and hardness of … Show more

“…In comparison to the other methods, the solvothermal method involves much milder conditions and softer chemistry conducted at lower temperatures [71]. Hydrothermal and solvothermal are techniques to produce TiO 2 and TiO 2 -based nano photocatalysts with different morphology such as nanosheets [72], nanofibers [73], nanotubes [74], films [75], nanoparticles [76,77], nanorods [78,79], powder [80,81], and to process nanocomposites materials [82][83][84][85][86]. The common Ti-source used in the synthesis process of nano photocatalysts via hydrothermal and solvothermal methods are titanyl sulfate (TiOSO 4 ) [83], titanium (IV) butoxide (TBOT, Ti(OC 4 H 9 ) 4 ) [72,82,87] , TiCl 4 [76,79,81,88], titanium tetraisopropoxide (TTIP, (Ti(OCH(CH 3 ) 2 ) 4 ) [73,89], Ti(SO 4 ) 2 [80,90], titanium (IV) n-butoxide (TNB, Ti(OBu) 4 ) [91], TiO 2 -P25 [92] and TiCl 3 [93].…”

“…Owing to their high tensile strength of up to 60 GPa, high conductivity (106 S/m and >105 S/m at 300 K for single-walled (SWCNTs) and multi-walled CNTs (MWCNTs), respectively), high rigidity (Young's modulus on the order of 1 TPa), specific structure (rolled Graphene sheets piled in the cylindrical/tubular structure) [21,81,82], CNTs have been considered as the potential LIB anode materials [21].…”

“…The method of sol-gel is the well-established synthesis method for the preparation of high-quality ZnO-NPs and also composites of mixed oxides. This procedure can easily control the surface of the material and properties of texture [64][65][66]. The sol-gel approach consists of five steps: thermal decomposition, polycondensation, hydrolysis, aging, and drying as shown in Fig.…”
