Production lot-sizing decision making considering bottle-neck drift in multi-stage manufacturing system

Abstract: Under a capacity constrained multi-product manufacturing system, the products are usually prepared and produced in lots. As a lot-sizing strategy is critical for effective production and high productivity, this encourages practical and research interest in the strategic batch sizing decision for a minimum procedure time in an order-to-delivery (OTD) operating environment. While the lot-sizing plan can be formed by studying the manufacturing parameters of the established bottleneck procedure, for a multi-stage … Show more

“…Tortorella et al (2019) studied the discrepancy of lean implementation performance between emerging and developed groups and results showed there existed differences among specific strategies and socio-economic context. To improve the cost-effective performance of the manufacturing plant, the inventory control strategy was studied by a lot-sizing programming modeling (Zhou et al , 2017).…”

“…The lot-sizing optimization and decision-making for intermediate ship-pipe parts is the main component of lean strategy in shipyards, contributing to waste reduction. The lot-sizing problem and industrial applications have been addressed by many discrete manufacturing systems and industrial plants (Adacher and Cassandras, 2014; Makssoud et al , 2014; Beemsterboer et al , 2017; Gruson et al , 2018; Zhou et al , 2017). However, to the state-of-the-art of lean management practice in shipyards, there is a little lot-sizing study in the shipbuilding industry, especially in ship outfitting plants.…”

“…Worldwide attempts were made to apply time sequencing of discrete events to optimize various production processes (Shouqi et al 2016;Si-Yu et al 2017;Kierzkowski and Kisiel 2017;Zhou et al 2017). Software packages utilizing this approach include Arena, Enterprise Dynamics, Plant Simulation, ProModel and FlexSim (Nordgren 2003;Lavery et al 2005).…”
