Production lessening analysis of manufacturing unit in India: Lean Six Sigma perspective

Abstract: Lean Six Sigma is systematic and excellent operation management approach aimed to enhance overall production through the elimination of waste and improve customer satisfaction. In the present case study, automobile part manufacturing unit has been selected and found 22% wastage in manufacturing steps resulting reduction in production. The primary objective of this research is to find the main reasons of production wastage and recommend corresponding remedies to counter the wastage reasons. For this purpose, Le… Show more

“…The automotive and heavy industries are having sufficient funds and strategies for managing their existing resources, results in improving the overall productivity of the plant at the lowest manufacturing cost of the product. However, MSMEs are still struggling areas in terms of CU, implement quality tools, improving productivity without increasing input, etc (Singh et al , 2019; Kumar et al , 2019). The literature presents that the CU concept has been successfully implemented in automotive (40%) and heavy industries (48%) rather than MSMEs (12%) as evident from Figure 5.…”

“…The study was conducted to identify the solutions to the defects discovered in the component that affect its performance (Mielczarek and Knop, 2018). In industries, the six sigma process is used to reduce waste and increase efficiency (Kumar et al, 2011(Kumar et al, , 2019. This paper focuses on the detailed application of the design, measure, analyze, improve and control (DMAIC) phases in a business on a Kolbus BF 511 machine.…”

“…In recent years, there has been a push for manufacturing industries in India to adopt Six Sigma and Lean production methodologies to compete with manufacturing centers worldwide (Valles et al , 2009; Srinivasan et al , 2014; Kumar et al , 2019). This has resulted in increased productivity and quality of engineered goods (Mielczarek and Knop, 2018).…”

“…Applications of DFSS vary from manufacturing (Jou et al , 2010; Shahin, 2008) to service (El-Haik and Roy, 2005; Yang et al , 2018). Besides that, some Six Sigma studies focus on the relationship between Six Sigma and lean production (Näslund, 2008; Patel and Patel, 2021) and the implementation of Lean Six Sigma (LSS) (Algassem et al , 2014; Antony et al , 2012b; Bhat et al , 2014; Bonilla et al , 2008; Delgado et al , 2010; Isa and Usmen, 2015; Kumar et al , 2019; Sunder et al , 2018; Wang and Chen, 2012). LSS, a powerful framework in which lean production and Six Sigma complement each other for eliminating process waste and variation together, has been recognized as an effective management tool for improving organizational performance.…”
