While the Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a broadly recognized management notion and has become one of the most used solutions in manufacturing industries, its implementation in various industries still needs further research. This study explores TOC implementation in a minerals environment where there are mining and minerals extraction activities. An instrumental case study approach is used for this research. The paper aids in explaining the method of TOC implementation in a continuously run concentrator plant. The 5-focusing steps, as pioneered by Goldratt, are used to identify constraints that limit the performance of a concentrator plant. In place of applying only the sequential TOC approach, the study uses a combination of existing improvement techniques with TOC. The theory's intended impacts on different sections of the concentrator were detected.

Although the Theory of Constraints (TOC) is a widely known management concept, it warrants further research, particularly in terms of its application. The study investigates TOC implementation in a medium-scale manufacturing system with diverse products. The instrumental case study methodology is employed in this study, and the conceptual studies assess the case. The study helps to elucidate the methodology of TOC implementation in a manufacturing system. Instead of the five-step sequential approach that exploits constraints one after another, the cycles of system productivity target points are proposed, where each improvement cycle simultaneously considers several constraints. The proposed methodology is visualised, several implications and suggestions for constraint identification are provided, and a new method of bottleneck identification is elaborated in this study.

Zinc oxide concentrate production is performed in the so-called rolldown process with the use of rotary furnaces. It is a complex technological process in which the zinc-bearing waste harmful to the environment is used as raw material. Incorrect process execution will cause a large number of unplanned stops. Three upgraded technological lines used for the production of concentrated zinc oxide at B. Recycling Sp. z o.o. company were analyzed. The purpose of the study was to determine the production process efficiency after implementation of the changes. In the study we used the Total Productive Maintenance method. We made the histograms for planned downtime and failures of individual technological lines for a period of one year and set the MTTF, MTBF and OEE indices. Analysis of results has allowed to propose a solution to shorten the failure duration.
