“…The second generation ethanol production flowchart consists of an agitated tank in which water and sulfuric acid (0.5% P/V) are mixed, the solutions enter the tank at a temperature of 25ºC and exit at 27 .13ºC, due to the release of heat, the solution is prepared in the proportion of 1:10 (m/v). Then the diluted acid solution goes to the chemical pre-treatment step, through acid hydrolysis, in this step the sugarcane bagasse is mixed with the acid solution, the hydrolysis by diluted acid must take place at 120ºC, with a reaction time of 10 min and an 88.4% conversion (Almeida, 2019;Gehlen, 2013;Gomes, 2019;Costa et al, 2014;Muktham et al, 2016) it is in this step that the conversion of hemicellulose to xylose occurs. The mixture leaving the first reactor is then filtered, the liquid part is considered a by-product and the solid part is sent to the second reactor, where enzymatic hydrolysis will take place.…”
