There is little information available concerning the effects of different sources and levels of phosphorus in the soil on lettuce quality and production. To help determine an optimal strategy, we used complete randomized blocks, in a 2x3x5 factorial experimental design, with two commercial lettuce cultivars widely used in Brazil (Americana (iceberg lettuce) cv. Lucy Brown and Crespa (leafy lettuce) cv. Vanda) fertilized with one of three phosphate sources [MAP, Polyblen or Triple Super Phosphate (SPT)], at five concentrations (0, 250, 500, 750 or 1000 kg of P 2 O 5 ha-1), with three replicates planted on a farm in Mineiros, GO. The variables stem height, head diameter, number of commercial and non-commercial heads and commercial fresh weight, were analyzed at 40 days after planting. There was a triple interaction for these factors, when their averages were broken down to qualitative and quantitative effects. The variables were correlated, and affinities with the genotype x phosphate source interaction were found. Based on the yield data, the recommendations for Americana are 911, 680 or 457 kg P 2 O 5 ha-1 from MAP, Polyblen, and SPT, respectively. For Crespa the recommendations are 580 or 611 kg P 2 O 5 ha-1 from MAP and SPT, respectively.

Efficient Microorganisms are shown to be an effective, alternative, sustainable, safe, and low-cost technique to increase the productivity of organic foods, and their use is a good option for agroecological management. Based on this context, this work had as main objective to evaluate the efficiency of the application of a biological cocktail from Efficient Microorganisms in the cultivation of lettuce. In the capture of the Efficient Microorganisms and the manufacture of the biological cocktail, a methodology proposal in the agroecology used by Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, Cattle and Supplying (MAPA, in Portuguese, Ministério da Agricultura, Pecuária e Abastecimento). The adopted experimental design was randomized blocks containing 8 blocks and 3 treatments. The T1 treatment, application of the Efficient Microorganisms, obtained a greater fresh mass of the aerial part of the plants sampled in the two cycles, resulting in a higher productivity in tons/hectare. The results proved to be advantageous for the productivity of the lettuce that received application of the biological cocktail from Efficient Microorganisms, when the biomass parameters were analyzed.

O cultivo de hortaliças no Brasil, explorado em base familiar, vem crescendo consideravelmente, impulsionado pela demanda por alimentos saudáveis. As hortaliças podem se tornar mais lucrativas e rentáveis quando o manejo é realizado adequadamente. Assim, o conhecimento do perfil agronômico relacionado às formas de condução das espécies cultivadas e dos cultivos pode direcionar estratégias de sustentabilidade e credibilidade perante o mercado. Neste contexto, objetivou-se analisar o perfil agronômico das propriedades olerícolas de agricultores familiares de Lavras e microrregião, Minas Gerais. Para isso, foi utilizada a metodologia com observação participativa, com visitas em 20 propriedades rurais, visando identificar por meio de entrevista, o cotidiano dos olericultores. Constatou-se que a maioria dos olericultores é do sexo masculino, com 51,3 anos e 1,6 filhos, em média. Esses produtores eram todos alfabetizados, fato que contribui para o entendimento de termos presentes nas bulas dos produtos fitossanitários. Entretanto, nota-se que o produtor precisa ser orientado quanto ao uso e conservação de equipamentos de proteção individual, para garantir a segurança durante as pulverizações. As áreas destinadas aos policultivos são pequenas (2,8 ha) e mantidas com mão de obra basicamente familiar. Menor diversidade de pragas foi observada em função do policultivo que, de certa forma, contribui para o equilíbrio do agroecossistema. O principal canal de comercialização são as feiras livres. A ausência de assistência técnica ainda é um gargalo, pois impede a otimização do processo produtivo e reduz a competitividade da agricultura familiar no mercado agrícola.
