Show more

“…The corresponding bodies were not topographi cally anomalous. The most similar described Cretaceous buildups are those recorded in the Aptian-Albian from northern Spain where different types of mud-mounds have been described (Pascal and Przybyla, 1989). The size and shape of the northern Spain buildups are often similar to those described here, though some are signifi cantly larger, and the internal structure is mainly microbial (bacinellid and pelletoidal framework) with a reticulate network in which the cavities are infilled with a "light micrite".…”

“…Whereas skeletal domi nated frameworks are characterized by corals or bivalve rudists, non skeletal buildups are essen tially related to mud mounds and/or microbial bioherms (Masse and Philip, 1981;Scott, 198 8;Camoin et aI. , 198 8;Negra and Purser, 1989;Pascal and Przybyla, 1989;Fermindez-Mendiola and Garcia-Mondejar, 1989;Scott et aI., 1990).…”

“…The Urgonian Complex of the Basque-Cantabrian Basin in northern Spain was deposited during the Aptian and Albian stages (Rat 1959;Pascal 1985;Garcı ´a-Monde ´jar 1990). It consists of an assemblage of deposits ranging from fluvial siliciclastics to deep-marine mudstones with turbidites.…”

“…The Lower Cretaceous Urgonian-type shallow-water limestones of the Basque-Cantabrian Basin have been widely studied (e.g. Rat 1959;Pascal 1985;Garcı ´a-Monde ´jar 1990;Rosales 1999;Najarro 2015;and references therein). Rudist and coral taxa are relatively well documented in these Urgonian platforms of northern Spain (Rat 1959;Pascal 1985;Reitner 1987;Baron-Szabo and Ferna ´ndez-Mendiola 1997).…”
