Processing of SARSAT signals using modified digital Lerner filter

Abstract

Search arid Rescue Satellite Aided 'Tracking ( S A R S K T ) is a method of employing satellites in low polar orbits to relay the emergency signals from distressed platforms to an earth station where signal processing techniques are used to measure the Doppler frequency shiR . This paper deals with transmitting an Eniaigency Locator Transmitter (ELT) signal through a second order bandgass Lerner filter and then estimating the power spedral density of the output signal using the periodogram and averaged periodogram techniques. Lerner filter possesses a flat responses across the passband and a steep skirt response at band edges ,which improve the detection ofthe carrier component peak at the ELT signal.
