Processing of refractory materials using various magnesium sources derived from Zinelbulak talc-magnesite

Abstract: Magnesia (MgO) is widely used in the production of refractory materials due to its high melting point, high thermal shock, and excellent slag resistance. The properties of refractory materials depend upon magnesia sources and processing parameters. In this work, three different magnesium sources, namely, magnesium hydroxide concentrate, magnesium carbonate concentrate, and intermediate flotation concentrate, were obtained from the Zinelbulak talc-magnesite, Uzbekistan, by causticization-hydration and flotatio… Show more

“…The demand for high purity magnesite oxide has been increasing considerably in recent years and the research on developing more efficient and effective process are being paid more and more attentions. Some researchers have studied the characteristics and the flotation technologies of magnesite and its gangue minerals separately [3,4,5,6,7,8]. This study has researched the floatability of magnesite, serpentine, dolomite, talc and quartz with sodium oleate and lauryl amine as collector, and the influence of the dosage of sodium oleate and lauryl amine, pH value, dosage of sodium silicate and sodium hexametaphosphate on the those five minerals, in order to provide reference for the beneficiation of magnesite.…”
