“…The usage of graphene nano sheets is gaining more attention due to their good relation benefit/cost. As said by Koo (2006), CNTs and graphene nano sheets (GN) have approximately the same stiffness, around 1.0 TPa. Moreover, the cost for expandable graphite, which is the main source of graphene nano sheets, is around US$10.00/pound, while single wall carbon nanotubes (CNT) cost for one single pound is 20,000 times higher.…”

“…This research focused on bending stiffness/strength due to the possible application of these composites as sandwich structures face sheets. Note that stresses are computed based on Timoshenko Beam Theory as described in Kollar and Springer (2003). By analyzing Fig.…”

“…Nevertheless, since the differences in void content are fairly small, the enhancement in properties attained should be mostly ascribed to the more effective reinforcement effect due to the addition of the compatibilizer. Kim et al [47] reported the tensile and flexural properties of CNT-modified carbon fiber-reinforced epoxy composites, and found that the degree of CNT dispersion strongly influenced the matrix-dominated mechanical properties; longer sonication times for CNT dispersion had a positive effect on the final flexural properties of the multiscale composites. On the other hand, the mechanical properties seem to be only slightly influenced by the quality of the nanofillers; the increments in the flexural and Younǵ s moduli attained with the inclusion of laser-grown CNTs are on average 5% and 3% higher than those achieved with similar amounts of arc-purified SWCNTs.…”

“…In recent years, carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs) modified with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), known as "multiscale hybrid composites" have been extensively researched in many fields, such as aerospace, automobiles, marine, railway, and sporting goods industries [1,2]. The multifunctional composites and nanocomposites have many properties, such as light weight, structural reinforcement, electrical and thermal conductivities, EMI shielding and radar absorption, fire retardancy, sensing and energy harvesting, etc.…”
