Processes affecting groundwater temperature patterns in a coastal aquifer

Abstract: ABSTRACT:The temperature depth profiles of six wells in the Motril-Salobren~a aquifer were used as a basis for a comparative analysis involving various parameters to determine their relations and factors influencing the different trends. There is a clear influence of ambient temperature on all the profiles, with a lag time of two to five months. Nevertheless, there are clear differences in the temperature depth profile patterns that can be accounted for by other factors. First, there is a greater influence of … Show more

“…For groundwater levels farther from the stream, such as the water level in well a4 (at a distance of 8.9 km from the Donghe River), there was no obvious response to the runoff events observed. The effect of the river recharge decreases with the distance from the water course because there is less mixing with infiltrated river water (Calvache et al, 2011).…”

“…Electrical resistivity survey was carried out in the study area to understand the subsurface characteristics. This method is advantageous as it can be carried out rapidly and is relatively inexpensive (Choudhury et al 2001;Calvache et al 2011). Electrical direct current is applied between the two current electrodes rooted in the ground and the electrical potential between two other electrodes is measured in this method.…”

“…4), as mentioned in Section 3. Finally, the profiles for P-11 highlight the pattern of the recharge zones (Calvache et al 2011); seawater comes in from the sea to reach the groundwater collecting system of the desalination plants. The particles released on the sea floor reach the catchments through the aquifer in the simulation (see path-lines from the seaward side in Fig.…”
