PROCESS OPTIMIZATION OF GREEN AQUEOUS-BASED EXTRACTION TECHNOLOGY OF TARAXACUM KOK-SAGHYZ RUBBER

Abstract: Taraxacum kok-saghyz (TKS), known as Russian dandelion, can produce high-quality natural rubber. The dry weight content of rubber in the TKS roots was found to be approximately 6–9%, of which 61% and 39% were stored in the root bark and root flesh, respectively. The content of lignin and holocellulose accounted for about 40% of the total root. Two new aqueous-based rubber extraction processes were proposed and optimized, namely, the strong water shearing process and the acid–base extraction process. These two … Show more

“…For the NR extraction from TKS-root material, the following groups of extraction methods were previously used: Solvent extraction, , enzymatic pre-extraction of lignocellulose, bacterial/fungal pre-extraction of lignocellulose, latex extraction, or a variation of different mechanical extraction methods. For mechanical extraction, Eskew , developed a two-stage ball mill (pebble mill) extraction. The function of the first stage was to separate softened or degraded cells from rubber tubes, thus elevating the rubber content relative to dry mass in the ball mill and to exclude biomass so that a higher throughput was achieved in the extraction system .…”

“…To improve the efficiency of the extraction systems, different pre- and post-treatments were previously introduced into the extraction systems. The first stage of the extraction system was replaced by different approaches like enzymatic, biological decomposition treatments, mechanical precrushing like premincing the roots, , or other chemical treatments like leaching. , But even with these different approaches, Salehi et al pointed out that there is an imminent need to improve the extraction system.…”
