Process Optimization of EDM Cutting Process on Tool Steel using Zinc Coated Electrode

Abstract: Abstract. In WEDM machining process, surface finish quality depends on intensity and duration of spark plasma. Electrode wire diameter has significant effect on the spark intensity and yet the studies on this matter still less. Therefore, the main objectives of this studies are to compare the different diameters of zinc coated and uncoated brass electrode on H13 tool steel surface roughness. The experiments were conducted on Sodick VZ300L WEDM and work piece material of tool steel AISI H13 block. Electrode of … Show more

“…In EDM, the use of silver coating on the surface of the Cu electrode resulted in a significant reduction of electrode wear [13]. Similar results were obtained when ZinC coating was used on the surface of the brass electrode in micro-EDM [14]. Surface roughness was also improved using MWCNT coated thin film micro tool electrodes.…”

“…Results with the TiAlN coated electrode were compared and it was observed that the machining efficiency of TiN coated electrode was higher [12]. Surface quality after WEDM with Zinc coated electrode is significantly improved, the SR of the coated electrode is reduced by 15.01% compared to that of the uncoated electrode [13]. This shows the effectiveness of using coated electrode in improving the machined surface quality.…”
