Angler attitudes and behavior are important factors in fisheries management, but time consuming and expensive to quantify. Analyzing the text that anglers contribute to online forums may be a fast and cost‐effective alternative. We applied sentiment analysis to almost 3 years of management‐related posts on online angling forums to estimate the long‐term satisfaction of walleye (Sander vitreus) anglers in nine U.S. states. Sentiment varied four‐fold among states. Consistent with the literature, our random forest model found that sentiment increased with angler density, bag limit, and season length. Relatively unimportant factors were fishing license cost, the frequency of special walleye regulations, the degree to which management agencies communicated with anglers through social media, and the importance of angling to the state economy. Our results support the hypothesis that online text can provide insight into the satisfaction of anglers who post on online forums. Future research should explore social listening as a low‐cost method for tracking angler satisfaction at finer spatial and temporal scales, and for other game fishes. This work contributes to a growing interest in exploring and validating the use of online data within systems of harvest management and governance.

Measurement Invariance of the Short Home Attachment Scale: A Cross-Cultural Study

The home environment is a particularly significant part of life that is supposed to satisfy inhabitants’ needs, form their identity, and contribute to psychological wellbeing. The construct of home attachment is especially relevant for students as a most mobile social group. This study is devoted to the validation of the Short Home Attachment Scale (SHAS) in a student sample from five countries (Armenia, India, Indonesia, Russia, and Ukraine). A total of 1,349 (17–26 years; Mage = 19.82, SDage = 2.14; 78% females) university students participated in the study and filled in the 14 items of HAS. In order to avoid redundant items with high error covariances damaging the model, a new scale—the SHAS was developed by eliminating seven items. The shortened scale has satisfactory structure validity in terms of model fit in all countries except Indonesia; internal reliability values were acceptable in all countries. Measurement invariance across countries was tested with Multi-Group Confirmatory Factor Analysis (MG CFA) and Alignment Analysis. MG CFA confirmed both configurational and metric invariance. The invariance of item factor loadings, as well as item intercepts, was also confirmed by the Alignment Analysis. The mean scores varied across cultures, with the highest in India and the lowest in Russia. The final version of SHAS is a valid, reliable tool that may be recommended for use in cross-cultural research. However, the SHAS factor structure robustness in the Indonesian population should be investigated thoroughly.

The Effects of Mobility Expectation on Community Attachment: A Multilevel Model Approach

According to the systemic model of community attachment, high residential stability serves as a precondition on which residents build formal and informal social ties within their communities, ultimately resulting in increased community attachment. However, previous studies have only measured residents’ length of residence in the community to measure residential stability, not considering whether expectations of staying in the community in the future affect residents’ community attachment. This study aims to test if mobility expectation influences residents’ community attachment by employing the logistic multilevel model to analyze 31,159 householders from 31 municipalities in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. The results show that residents’ mobility expectation, in addition to the length of residence, is a significant determinant of community attachment after controlling for individual and regional-level covariates. The results provide implications for urban and regional policies aiming to promote community attachment and participation among residents in the age of increasing residential mobility.
