A market research approach to improving map effectiveness: a comparison of two Perth street directories

RossidesEarlier work considered the interpretation of point symbols on five different street directories and town maps (\1\brth, 1988) and used the example of symbol interpretation on the two major Perth street directories to discuss the problems of scientific research in map evaluation (\1\brth, 1989). \1\brking with the map publishers, the authors of this paper use a market research approach to examine a range of questions concerning the design effectiveness and sales potential of the 1990 editions.
