Probabilistic available transfer capability assessment in power systems with wind power integration

Abstract: Extending current deterministic tools to incorporate significant stochastic wind power is becoming an important as well as challenging task for present-day power system decision-making. This paper proposes a novel probabilistic assessment method to assess the available transfer capability (ATC). Usually, a large number of ATC evaluations is needed to obtain accurate results using time-consuming Monte Carlo simulations (MCS). To alleviate the computation burden of probabilistic ATC, a statistically-equivalent s… Show more

“…The methods that seek the CUEP 18,23 take a long time to determine these points. Thus, the accuracy of the suggested method is contrasted with the simulation method and its speed is compared with that of fast and accurate available transfer capability (FADATC), 21 SVR, 22 CUEP, 23 and PATC 25 …”

“…A joint optimization approach for transmission expansion with wind power to enhance ATC is discussed in [15]. A probabilistic approach based on canonical low-rank approximation is proposed in [16] to evaluate ATC considering the uncertainties of wind power, load, and outage of transmission lines. In [17], the authors used the AC power distribution factor method to evaluate ATC, considering the reactive capability curve of the wind turbine.…”

“…ATC is additionally useful data for the operator to see how far the limits are from the point of work and can also show an exchange limit that can be extended without compromising framework security and stability. A novel way of the probabilistic approach using canonical low-rank approximation (LRA) for ATC calculation is discussed [4]. ATC is the remaining transfer capability for further commercial activities in a physical transmission network well beyond the already committed usages.…”
