ZusammenfassungDaten gelten als das „Öl des 21. Jahrhunderts“, wobei dieser „Rohstoff“ bei Personendaten im Besitz des jeweiligen Individuums ist. In diesem Beitrag werden ausgewählte Ergebnisse aus einer bevölkerungsrepräsentativen Umfrage zu den Motiven, persönliche Daten über Social Media zu teilen, in den USA und der Schweiz vorgestellt. Die Resultate zeigen auf, dass finanzielle Motive zwar eine Rolle spielen, dass aber zwei andere Grundmotive, nämlich Information und sozialer Einfluss, von größerer Bedeutung sind.
