The context of China fosters different contextual factors, which influences the quality of corporate social responsibility (CSR) disclosure in comparison to firms across the rest of the world. Political ties at a corporate level are one of these vital factors. This paper studies the influence of firm-level political ties (PT) and executive turnover (ET) on the quality of CSR disclosure in the context of shareholding status of departing executive in Chinese listed A-share firms. Stakeholder and Agency theories are applied to the dissemination of CSR disclosures in Chinese firms whereby we used 20,578 firm-years interpretations of Chinese registered companies between 2012 and 2019. The results foster a negative link between executive turnover and quality of CSR disclosures. In addition, a negative relationship has been found between political ties and the quality of CSR disclosure. The findings disclose that the shareholding status of departing executive moderate the relationship between the impact of political ties and executive turnover on firms quality of CSR disclosure, whilst the effect of executive turnover on the quality of CSR disclosure was found more pronounced for firms whose departing executive held larger shareholding (SH). This study contributed to the literature on the quality of CSR disclosure while recognizing the negative effect of executive turnover on a firm’s quality of CSR disclosure for politically tied firms with a reinforcing moderating role of the shareholding status of departing executive.

A number of studies have confirmed the Porter hypothesis that moderate environmental regulation can facilitate the adoption of green technology innovation strategies by cooperatives. However, the existing research has not clearly analyzed the paths of environmental regulation affecting green technology innovation and how internal factors act on the transmission path. To this end, this paper empirically examines the relationship between environmental regulation and enterprises’ green technology innovation from a collaborative innovation perspective, using data from the 13th Private Enterprise Survey in China as the sample. The findings show that: (1) the intensity of environmental regulation set by the Chinese government does promote enterprises’ green technological innovation, and this result will not change due to the difference between green process innovation and green product innovation; (2) under the constraints of environmental regulation, the allocation of resources through the mode of cooperative innovation to promote green technology innovation is an important transmission path, that is, cooperative innovation is an important mediating variable between environmental regulation and enterprises’ green technology innovation; (3) the management structure of enterprises can positively moderate the relationship between environmental regulation and collaborative innovation, i.e., the more managers, the more significant the influence of environmental regulation on collaborative innovation; (4) the stronger the social responsibility of enterprises, the more likely it is that the innovation resources obtained through collaborative forms will be allocated towards green technology innovation. However, such a moderating effect only exists in two types of cooperation: collaborative R&D and commissioned research. This research tells us that while environmental regulations continue to be strengthened, it is necessary to create an environment conducive to collaborative innovation but also to pay attention to the need for joint decision making and increase corporate social responsibility.

Introduction: Objective environmental uncertainty has important impacts on entrepreneurial decision-making, but entrepreneurs’ perception of uncertainty may be a more crucial factor. This is because objective environmental uncertainty may need to be filtered through entrepreneurs’ perceptions to influence their decision-making. Therefore, exploring how entrepreneurs’ perceived environmental uncertainty (PEU) affects their corporate eco-innovation behavior has significant theoretical and practical implications.Methods: Drawing on the dynamic capability view, we utilize data from the 2016 China Private Enterprise Survey (CPES) on 2,733 small and medium-sized enterprises (SEMs) to highlight the impact of entrepreneurs’ PEU on corporate eco-innovation. We also examine the moderating effect of government intervention (government subsidies and government official visiting) on this relationship.Results: Our study reveals a positive impact of entrepreneurs’ PEU on corporate eco-innovation, confirming the critical role of dynamic capability in corporate strategic adjustment under uncertain conditions. Additionally, we find that government intervention (government subsidies and official visits) has a positive moderating effect on this relationship, with entrepreneurs’ PEU and eco-innovation being mediated by corporate dynamic capability.Discussion: The study contributes to the literature on environmental uncertainty, dynamic capabilities, and eco-innovation, and provides practical implications for SMEs in developing countries. The findings highlight the importance of subjective perceptions of environmental uncertainty over objective uncertainty. The study also demonstrates that environmental uncertainty is not inherently negative, but can be managed strategically with dynamic adjustment and government support.
