Prioritization of sub-watersheds based on morphometric analysis using geospatial technique in Piperiya watershed, India

Abstract: Hydrological investigation and behavior of watershed depend upon geo-morphometric characteristics of catchment. Morphometric analysis is commonly used for development of regional hydrological model of ungauged watershed. A critical valuation and assessment of geomorphometric constraints has been carried out. Prioritization of watersheds based on water plot capacity of Piperiya watershed has been evaluated by linear, aerial and relief aspects. Morphometric analysis has been attempted for prioritization for nine… Show more

“…The study of flood and flood management strategies require the estimation of flow of water in river channels (Chandniha and Kansal 2017;Bouwer 2013). However, runoff estimation in ungauged stations is very challenging (Nyamathi and Kavitha 2013).…”

“…Several methods have been developed and elaborated for watersheds prioritization. Eleven of the twenty five studies (44% of the total) employed morphometric analysis method in prioritization [8] [27]. Whereas the other 14 studies (56% of the total) adopted the morphometric analysis method combined with one or two of the following methods, such as: sediment yield index method(SYI) [8] [22]; sediment production rate (SPR) method [28]; USLE/RUSLE models for estimating soil loss [7] [29] [30]; soil erosion susceptibility analysis [12]; runoff potential method [31]; land use/cover analysis [32] [33]; sediment yield index(SYI)and land use/cover [23]; weighted sum analysis technique [34]; fuzzy analytical hierarchy process [30] [35]; Snyder's method of unit hydrograph, and land use/cover [36].…”
