Printed Egg Curved Slot Antennas for Wideband Applications

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents a novel design of an egg curve based wide-slot antenna for various wideband applications. The proposed printed antenna consists of an egg curved slot with a similar tuning stub. The egg curve is obtained by introducing an egg shaping parameter into standard elliptic curve equation. The effect on the impedance bandwidth through the variations in antenna design parameters has been investigated and analysed in detail. To validate the theoretical design, various egg curved slot antenna… Show more

“…SWB antennas provide improved resolution and ranging, higher time precision, increased capacity and data rates compared to UWB. Planar monopole antennas are preferred for realizing SWB characteristics due to their smaller dimensions and easier integration with microwave IC"s. SWB antennas are used for UWB, Radio determination applications (4.5 -7 GHz), , Wireless access systems/Radio LAN (17.1 -17.3 GHz), Doppler navigational aids, Radio astronomy (22.5 GHz, 24.05 -27 GHz), Short range radar (21.4 -27 GHz), ISM (24.25 GHz), UWB Vehicular Radar(22-29 GHz) [13] and more. Several techniques in the geometry have been proposed in literature to achieve super wideband performance.…”

“…An antenna's impedance bandwidth (BW) is known to be significantly affected by the shape of a printed antenna's radiating patch. Several research studies focused on novel radiating patch designs; this was done to determine the relationship between antenna properties, specifically the correlation between BW and geometric dimensions . Later, EAs were introduced into the design process, either as a supplementary approach to improve the optimization process or as the main method of constructing the antenna radiator .…”

“…[3] The bandwidth can be varied by changing different substrate materials , having various values of relative permittivity Er [5] The bandwidth can also varied by changing values of Design dimensions [6]. An egg shaped slot antenna is designed to increase the impedance Bandwidth [7] by varying Design parameters. The egg shaped curve is introduced by introducing egg shaped parameter in the standard elliptic curve equation.…”
