Abstract. Rahajeng W, Rahayuningsih SA. 2017. Agronomic performance, variance component, and diversity of sixty-two sweet potato accessions. Biodiversitas 18: 95-100. Sweet potato is an alternative carbohydrate source to overcome the shortage of rice due to the impact of the global change. The objectives of this research were to determine the performance, the genotypic and phenotypic variance, and the diversity of agronomic characters of sixty-two germplasm accessions of sweet potato. The research was conducted in AprilAugust 2013 at Muneng Research Station, Probolinggo, East Java, Indonesia. The material used was sixty-two accessions of sweet potato from Indonesian Legumes and Tuber Crops Research Institute (ILETRI) germplasm collection. The research was arranged in a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two replications with a plot size of 1 m × 5 m and 100 × 25 cm in spacing (single row). The variables observed included: the vines length, the branch number, the chlorophyll index, the weight of the canopy, the harvest index, the storage root length, the storage root diameter, the number of the storage root per plot, the storage root yield, and dry matter content. The analysis of variance showed the high significant genotype at all the traits observed. All the traits showed a wide range of phenotypic variance and genotypic variance and high broad sense heritability. The PCA identified four principal components that explained 79.00% of total variation present in the genotypes. The traits that most contributed to the diversity were the chlorophyll index, the weight of vines, the vines length, and the branch number. The cluster analysis based on 69% similarity grouped sixty-two accessions into ten clusters, genotypes with superior traits currently on the first cluster. MLG 12695 and MLG 12505 were potentially used as a source of genes in the superior sweet potato varieties improved for the high yield potential purpose.

Information on genetic variation, heritability, gene action and genetic advance were important in the development of soybean varieties adapted on Ultisol. The objective of this experiment was to estimate genetic variation, hertability, gene action and genetic advance from the populaton used in breeding program. Six genotypes, i.e Dempo, Cikuray, Davros, Orba, Sindoro and Wilis were intercrossed using diallel Griffings’ Method 2 Model 1 (1956). These six genotypes and 15 F1 hybrids were planted on Ultisol using randomized complete block design with three replications located in Medan Baru village, Bengkulu city in 1999. The results of this experiment revealed that all traits showed low to high genetic variation, high broadsense heritability, low to high narrowsense heritability and genetic advance. Date of flowering and root length were fully controlled by additive gene action, however harvest index was fully controlled by negative dominant gene action and epistasis. Other traits were controlled by positive and negative partially dominant, and positive overdominant genes.

The study was conducted at the farmer's field in Ujung Batu Sijunjung, West Sumatera using local Salacca cultivars developed from crossing between cultivar Pondoh as female plant and indigenous salak of Sumatera as male plant. This study was held from January 2003 until December 2005. The objective of this study was to develop database of Salacca characters by exploration method and using data passport model. The research result showed that five accessions with yellowish white fruits and the other five accessions with white fruits. The plant that produced fruit with good quality was SNJ-01 and thick flesh (0.57 cm), sweet (18,00 o Brix in TSS), crispy, yellowish white in color and contains water 77.02%.Key words: Salacca edulis R., exploration, characterization, evaluation. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini dilakukan di kebun petani Desa Ujung Batu Kabupaten Sijunjung Sumatera Barat dengan menggunakan materi tanaman salak yang ada di daerah tersebut yang berasal dari persilangan antara induk betina salak Pondoh dan jantan indigenous Sumatera. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Januari 2003 sampai dengan Desember 2005 dan bertujuan untuk menyusun database karakter tanaman salak, metode yang digunakan adalah eksplorasi dan pengumpulan database menggunakan model paspor data. Hasil penelitian diperoleh deskripsi 5 aksesi yang warna buahnya putih kekuningan dan 5 aksesi yang warna buahnya putih. Tanaman yang menghasilkan buah dengan mutu baik, yaitu aksesi nomor SNJ-01, di mana daging buahnya tebal (0,57 cm), manis (PTT = 18,00 o Brix), masir, berwarna putih kekuningan, dan kadar air (7,02%).Kata kunci: Salacca edulis R., eksplorasi, karakterisasi, evaluasi.
