“…Among the taxa of the tribe, the genus may be characterized by a swollen metasternum, and mesotibiae and metatibiae with transverse carinae (Martínez, 1953;Vaz-de-Mello et al, 2011). Currently, Scybalophagus comprises five extant species: S. lacordairei (Laporte, 1840), S. pilosus (Felsche, 1910) and S. plicatipennis (Blanchard, 1845), recorded from Argentina; S. patagonicus (Martínez, 1953), recorded from Argentina and Chile; and S. rugosus (Blanchard, 1845), recorded from Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Chile (Martínez, 1953;Ferrú and Elgueta, 2011;Ocampo and Molano, 2011;Cid-Arcos, 2017;Cid-Arcos and Guerra-Serrudo, 2021). These species are considered true dung beetles that are attracted to the fresh dung of humans, guanacos and cows (Halffter and Martínez, 1968;Ocampo and Molano, 2011;Cid-Arcos and Guerra-Serrudo, 2021).…”
