PRIMARY T-CELL LYMPHOMA OF THE BRAIN IN CHILDREN: A Case Report and Literature Review

Abstract: Described here are the clinical features and results of treatment in a 10-year-old Saudi Arabian girl with primary T-cell lymphoma of the central nervous system. At presentation the patient had nystagmus and ataxia. The diagnosis was established by tissue biopsy obtained from the cerebellum. Therapy included cranio-spinal irradiation and combination chemotherapy of a systemic high dose of methotrexate, cytosine, arabinoside, and L-asparaginase. Remission was obtained easily but was interrupted by a local intra… Show more

“…The family gave a concentrated fenugreek extract (about 8 g fenugreek seeds per day) without medical consultation for 6 months. MRI of the brain after six months showed complete remission which observed for 11 years [91]. Apoptosis induced by fenugreek was described in many different tumor cell lines: colon, osteosarcoma, leukemia, breast, and liver [90,92].…”

“…In the other three children the diagnostic method was not reported. The DLBCL is the most common subtype (13 [30%] of 43), followed by ALCL (21%; seven T-cell and two null-cell tumors), lymphoblastic lymphoma (16%; five precursor-B and two Tcell lesions 6,78 ), Burkitt (12%), histiocytic (5%, confirmed by immunohistochemical findings), and other (6%) lesions. Histological findings were not reported in 10% of cases.…”

“…8 Few cases of children with primary T-cell lymphomas of the brain were described, though none of them were classified as mature T-cell lymphoma, unspecified. 9,10 In general, most of PCNSL are of B-cell lineage. Thus, T-cell lineage PCNSLs are poorly defined.…”
