“…Initially indicated and recommended in elderly patients >70 years because long-term outcomes were not clear, RSA is today increasingly used in patients <65 years and even <55 years, with excellent clinical results. 40,41 A study by Bacle et al 2 reported an overall survival rate of 93% after 10 years for the Grammont style RSA, a result similar to that of other long-term follow-up studies, 14,23,36,43 and clinical results that seem to deteriorate over time, even if remaining satisfactory, especially in cases of patients treated for CTA. Walch 2 suggested that the decrease in strength and active anterior elevation could be due to a progressive functional impairment of the deltoid, which may be the result of muscle senescence in combination with nonphysiologic biomechanical demands caused by the alteration of the anatomy.…”
