Chondroid syringoma is a rare benign, skin appendageal tumor, also known as mixed tumors of the skin. The clinical presentation of chondroid syringoma is non-specific, and the diagnosis is made histopathologically. A case of a 74-year-old man presented with an asymptomatic 1.3-cmsized, firm, skin-colored, subcutaneous nodule of 8 years' duration on the superior helical rim of the left ear. Stretching of the skin over the tumor showed the "tent sign" with many facets and angles, a pathognomonic sign for pilomatricoma. The nodule was totally excised under the impression of pilomatricoma. The histopathologic findings showed the characteristic features of chondroid syringoma. Chondroid syringoma arising in the helix is extremely rare; only four cases have been reported in the literature. This case represented the fifth documented case of chondroid syringoma occurring in the helix with clinical presentation mimicking pilomatricoma and the first case involving a male patient. A review of the relevant literature is also presented.

Background. Pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is a benign tumour that mainly arises from salivary glands, and PA of the external auditory canal (EAC) is very rare. The objective of this study was to clarify the clinical presentation and treatment of PA of the EAC. Method. The authors present a case of PA arising from the EAC together with a literature review. Results. A 40-year-old man complained of hearing loss and foreign-body sensation of the right ear. Clinical and radiological examinations revealed a welldefined tumour limited to the EAC, with no connection to the parotid gland. Preoperative fine-needle aspiration cytology findings were characteristic of PA. The tumour was removed en bloc with the overlying skin. Conclusion. PA of the EAC is very rare, and methods to rule out malignancy before treatment are lacking. Thus, long-term follow-up is necessary, because malignant tumours are common in the EAC and PA has malignant potential.

Syringocystadenomapapilliferum is an extremely rare benign adnexal tumor of the scalp and face region. This is a report of the case of a female patient with syringocystadenomapapilliferum originating from the bony cartilaginous junction of the external auditory canal. A provisional diagnosis of an inflammatory polyp was made based on the clinical and radiological findings. Diagnosis was established only after the histopathological examination. This article represents a report of a rare skin disease and a rare site of affection. It emphasizes the role of histopathology in the diagnosis of such a condition with debatable clinical and radiological findings.
