Primary liver AIDS-related lympoma

Abstract: SUMMARYNon-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHL) are the second most frequent malignancies in AIDS patients. The majority of NHL associated with AIDS involves extranodal sites, especially the digestive tract and the central nervous system. Primary liver lymphoma (PLL) is an uncommon neoplasm among these patients. Ultrasonography and computed tomography scans may be helpful in the diagnosis of focal hepatic lymphoma. Image-guided fine-needle biopsy with histopathology of the liver lesions is the gold standard for the diagn… Show more

“…Ultrasound can investigate most of the organs affected in AIDS and can guide biopsies, allowing the cytohistological and microbiological investigations need for a definitive diagnosis [3]. Ultrasonography and computed tomography scans may be helpful in the diagnosis of focal hepatic lymphoma [5].…”

“…9 In the liver, lymphoma has been reported as being usually hypoechoic. [1][2][3][4]6,9,10 In our case, the pathologic specimen showed diffusely intermingled adipose tissue within the mass. The unusual echogenicity of our case may be due the intermingled fat cells between the lymphomatous cells, creating interface and thereby echoes.…”

“…[1][2][3][4] Although unusual sonographic features of lymphoma such as nonhomogeneity have been described in a limited number of patients, 5 hyperechogenicity is rare. 6 We report a case of primary lymphoma presenting as an extrahepatic and intrahepatic echogenic periportal mass.…”
