Primary intraventricular oligodendroglioma

Abstract: Oligodendroglioma, usually found in the cerebral hemispheres may invade the ventricles, however primary intraventricular oligodendroglioma is quite uncommon with only a limited number of cases reported in the literature. A 39-year-old woman harbouring a primary oligodendroglioma of the left lateral ventricle was treated by subtotal removal of the tumour through a left frontal transcortical transventricular approach. The clinical, radiological and surgical details of the case are presented in correlation with t… Show more

“…Oligodendrogliomas are relatively rare tumors of the brain and constitute 0.9‐4% of all brain tumors and 3‐12% of all gliomas . Although oligodendrogliomas commonly arise in the cerebral hemisphere, including the frontal and temporal lobes, primary intraventricular oligodendrogliomas (IVOs) have rarely been reported . However, primary IVOs that were previously reported may in fact be central neurocytomas because central neurocytomas appear quite similar to oligodendrogliomas on routine light microscopic examination …”
