Primary Hemangioma of the Occipital Bone in the Region of the Torcula. Two Case Reports.

Abstract: Two rare cases of subtorcular occipital bone hemangioma occurred in 26-year-old and 30-year-old female patients. Partial resection was performed in both cases because of the proximity to the torcula. No recurrence was seen at follow-up examination at 9 and 12 months.

“…The risk of bleeding is reduced when total resection is performed with an acceptable normal bone margin [2,11,23,24]. Preoperative embolization has also been observed to minimize intraoperative blood loss by several researchers [19,25,26]. Radiotherapy can slow the development of tumors but cannot remove them [11].…”

“…The literature describes only two cases where such a neoplasm was described just in proximity to torcula. [ 3 ] Both cases underwent partial tumor excision, followed by radiation therapy. We decided for total tumor excision, as the radiology had described intact inner table and no invasion of underlying venous channels or dura.…”
