Primary dural non-hodgkin′s lymphoma mimicking meningioma

Abstract: A 42-year-old immunocompetent female presented with headache, vomiting and diminished unilateral vision. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were suggestive of high-grade meningioma. Neurological examination and routine hematological parameters were within normal limits. Craniotomy was performed; the tumor was arising from the dura mater, which was completely resected. Hematoxylin and eosin showed lesion comprising a tumor mass with monomorphic population of tumor cells arranged in sheets and sm… Show more

“…Direct involvement of the CNS occurs in 1–2% of patients with lymphoma. Common clinical manifestations of primary CNS lymphoma are in the form of raised intracranial pressure (headaches and vomiting), decrease in vision, fever, altered mental status, seizures and cranial nerve involvement or focal neurological deficit 3 4. Our patient presented with headache, vomiting and cranial nerve involvement.…”

“…Patients were identified through institutional databases at both sites and were included in this report if they met the following criteria: 1) clinical presentation of a dural mass and no evidence of primary parenchymal brain involvement, 2) brain imaging demonstrating an extra-axial mass arising from the dura mater, 3) pathologic confirmation of lymphoma, 4) primary neurological presentation. Our review identified twenty six patients with DL, five of whom were reported previously (1).…”

“…The exact incidence of DL is unknown, and the published data consist of small reports and case series (13). DL occurs more frequently in middle aged women, in contrast to parenchymal PCNSL which is more common in men (1, 2).…”
