Primary Carcinoma of the Female Urethra

Abstract: The clinical and morphological features in 81 cases of carcinoma of the female urethra were reviewed. The over-all 5 and 10-year survival rate for the entire group was 32 per cent. Survival expectations for patients with squamous carcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma were similar when analyzed according to stage and all cell types appeared to respond equally to irradiation. Prognosis was related directly to the clinical stage of the disease. A plea is made for more accurate assessment of th… Show more

“…Among reported complications from RT, the most common include strictures, necrosis, fistulas, and chronic oedema . In female PUC, in addition to anatomical location and clinical stage, the size of the primary tumour has been found to correlate with outcomes . Disease‐specific survival is highest in tumours of the anterior urethra, and decreases in more posteriorly located tumours and is even lower when the entire urethra is involved.…”

“…[17] The prognosis of urethral tumors in woman depends on the size, stage, and anatomic location patient comorbidities, the type of diversion, as well as the presence or absence of systemic disease. [1,4,18,19] Large tumor size is associated with poor prognosis. According to most studies, the women treated with radiation therapy for distal PUCs seem to have similar survival outcomes compared with those treated with surgery.…”

“…Sind die Patientinnen medizinisch inoperabel, so ist eine Brachytherapie sinnvoll. Die Prognose ist relativ schlecht; in einer relativ großen Fallzusammenstellung wird von 32% Fünfjahresgesamtüberleben berichtet [68], ein Radiotherapeut berichtet über 42% [72].…”
