In one study, rabbits underwent mechanical epithelial debridement and keratocyte loss was prevented using CCS soaked in 1% dextran, 2·5% chondroitin sulphate, vitamins, and precursors of adenosine triphosphate solution (Nassaralla and others 1995). CCSs support collagenases and polymorphonuclear leukocytes phagocytosis, thus reducing corneal stromal lysis and restoration of the corneal epithelium integrity (Schiff and others 1992).…”
