Prevention and treatment of the taeniasis and cysticercosis

Abstract

Taeniasis and cysticercosis is widely distributed, easy to spread, and harmful to human health, and the drug treatment of taeniasis and cysticercosis has always been a major problem that needs to be solved urgently. Taeniasis is mainly caused by raw food or consumption of undercooked pork containing eggs and larvae of tapeworms. The porcine cysticercosis is caused by mistakenly eating food contaminated by insect eggs. Cases of taeniasis in humans can be asymptomatic or only mildly symptomatic. The symptoms of cysticercosis are relatively severe. Therefore, the research topic of this article is the prevention and treatment of taeniasis and cysticercosis. Tapeworm eradication and pork management are two aspects of prevention. The effective treatment methods were summarized by comparing the cure rates of different treatments for tapeworm disease and cysticercosis. It was concluded that areca nut decoction plus pumpkin seeds are the most effective treatment for taeniasis, while oxfendazole is the most effective treatment for cysticercosis. However, there are many more effective treatments that could be further studied in the future in order to facilitate the treatment of these diseases.
