“…There is increasing evidence that OA is a dynamic process that results from joint injury and re-modelling imbalance, with the major cause being an excess of pro-in ammatory substances that trigger chondrocyte apoptosis and matrix deterioration [26] . With a comprehensive and synergistic approach, herbal medicine has drawn interest in the cure of OA by preserving the body's equilibrium [27] . By integrating clinical observations, network pharmacological techniques, and in-vitro studies, we have methodically evaluated the mechanism of action of Xinfeng capsule in osteoarthritis in our study.…”

“…The unique properties of natural products, such as multitarget effects based on multiple compounds, are thought to be well adapted to the requirements of DMOADs in drug discovery ( Yang et al, 2017 ; Luo et al, 2020 ; Jo et al, 2021 ; 2023b ; Panossian, 2023 ; Ren et al, 2023 ). Especially, East Asian herbal medicines (EAHM) have a long history of use by many people in East Asia, and in recent years, considerable scientific evidence has been compiled regarding their mechanisms for improving clinical arthritis symptoms and inhibiting inflammatory pathology, which can be considered the best data source for anti-OA drug development ( Li and Zhang, 2020 ; Wang et al, 2020 ; 2022 ; Jo et al, 2022 ; Liang et al, 2022 ; Zhang et al, 2022 ; Li et al, 2023 ). Recent EAHM studies have shown that several traditionally used herbs can inhibit the complex pathology of OA, including generalized inflammation, subchondral bone destruction, cartilage loss, and synovial defects, and this inhibition is based on their multi-component pharmacology.…”

“… 2 People with OA may experience joint pain, stiffness, swelling, deformity, and disability. 3 The etiology of OA is still unknown, and its risk factors include joint degeneration and heredity, age, obesity, cumulative strain, joint trauma, and deformity. 4 With the aging of the global population, OA has imposed a substantial economic burden on patients and society.…”
